Eid Travel by Bus: How to Plan Ahead and Avoid the Rush
Eid is the busiest travel period of the year. Plan early, stay flexible on timing and keep your ticket handy with these practical tips.

Every Eid, a huge number of people leave the cities to be with family. Buses fill up, roads slow down and last-minute travellers struggle to find a seat. A bit of planning takes most of the stress out of it.
1. Fix your dates early
Decide when you are leaving and when you are coming back as soon as your holiday is confirmed. The days immediately before Eid are the most crowded. If your leave allows it, travelling a day or two earlier than the peak is calmer and gives you more buses to choose from.
2. Book as soon as tickets open
Popular departures sell out quickly before Eid. Booking online means you do not have to queue at a counter, and you can see at a glance which buses and seats are still available. Book the return journey at the same time, since buses back to the city fill up just as fast after the holiday.
3. Be flexible on timing
If your preferred departure is sold out, look at:
- an earlier or later bus on the same day
- a departure on the day before
- a different boarding point in the same city
A small change often turns "sold out" into several good options.
4. Choose your boarding point carefully
City traffic before Eid is heavy. Pick the boarding point that is easiest for you to reach, and leave home earlier than you normally would. Aim to be at the boarding point well before departure.
5. Expect a longer journey
Highways are busy in the days around Eid, and journeys can take considerably longer than usual. Plan for it:
- carry water and some food
- charge your phone and bring a power bank
- keep any medicine you need in your hand luggage
- let your family know that your arrival time is an estimate
6. Travel light and keep valuables close
Crowded terminals are not the place for heavy bags. Pack what you need, label your luggage, and keep money, phone and documents with you rather than in the hold.
7. Keep your ticket handy
Your e-ticket is in your email and under My Trips in your account. Save it on your phone before you leave home, in case the network is slow at the terminal.
8. Know the fare rules
Plans can change at the last minute. Before you pay, check whether your ticket can be cancelled or moved to another date, and what it would cost. You can see the rules for your booking again later in My Trips.
Start early
The single best Eid travel tip is the simplest one: do not leave it late. Search your route and book your seats while there is still a choice.
