History

In August 1971, freedom fighters fought Pakistani forces near the village of Jagannathpur in Damurhuda, close to the border. Eight of them were killed and were buried together where they fell, and the place has been known ever since as Aat Kobor, the Eight Graves.

After independence the graves became a memorial, later developed into a complex with a monument and gardens. It is one of the best-known Liberation War sites in the south-west, visited by school groups and families, especially on Independence Day and Victory Day.

It is a simple, moving place in open countryside, and pairs naturally with a visit to Mujibnagar, where the Provisional Government was sworn in that April.
