History

The Arifail Mosque is a brick mosque of the Mughal period, generally dated to the 17th century. With its domes, its arched entrances and its plastered walls, it is one of the finest old mosques in the district.

It stands beside a large tank, the Sagar Dighi, and near it are the twin graves known locally as the Jora Kabar, the subject of local legends.

In Mughal times Sarail was the seat of an important pargana, and the area holds other traces of that past. The mosque is still in use for prayers.
