History

Carmichael College was founded in 1916 and named after Lord Carmichael, then Governor of Bengal. Local zamindars and residents gave land and money so that the north could have a college of its own.

Its main building, a long arcaded front crowned with small domes, mixes Mughal and colonial styles and is one of the landmarks of Rangpur. The college has taught generations of students from across the region and remains a working campus today.
