History

The Hajiganj Boro Masjid was founded in the early 20th century by Haji Ahmad Ali Patwari, a local landowner and merchant, and was enlarged over the following decades. It is one of the largest mosques in this part of the country.

The mosque is known for its decorated interior, with ornamental tiles and plasterwork, and for its tall minaret, which can be seen from far across the town.

It draws very large congregations on Fridays and at Eid, and many people visit it on the way between Chandpur and Cumilla.
