History

During the Second World War, Cumilla was a key Allied base behind the Burma front, with hospitals and airfields in the area. Soldiers who died here — many of wounds or illness — were buried in this cemetery.

The cemetery is cared for by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Rows of plain headstones on a gentle slope carry the names, regiments and ages of soldiers from Britain, undivided India, Africa and other parts of the Commonwealth, with different faiths marked side by side.

It is a calm, well-kept place, and many visitors find it the most moving stop in Cumilla.
