History

Mir Mosharraf Hossain (1847–1911) is one of the first major Muslim writers of modern Bengali prose. His best-known work, Bishad Sindhu, retells the tragedy of Karbala and is still widely read; he also wrote plays, novels and essays, among them the play Jamidar Darpan.

Born in Kushtia, he spent the last part of his life at Padamdi, then part of greater Faridpur, and was buried here. A memorial to the writer stands by the grave, keeping his memory alive in the district.

For readers of Bengali literature it is a quiet, meaningful stop; for others, it is a glimpse of rural Rajbari.
