History

Shubhosandhya — “good evening” — is a stretch of sand at the southern edge of Taltali upazila, where the land meets the Bay of Bengal. A belt of casuarina trees planted along the shore gives shade behind the beach, and the evening light over the water gave the place its name.

Until recent years the beach was known mostly to local people. Better roads to Taltali have brought more visitors, but it is still far quieter than Kuakata across the water, with fishing boats, red crabs on the sand and few stalls.

It pairs well with a visit to the Tengragiri mangrove forest nearby and to Taltali’s Rakhine villages.
