History

Teota was the seat of a zamindar family whose house, temples and ponds still stand in the village near the Jamuna. The most striking building is the Nabaratna temple, a tall temple with nine spires, a style found in only a few places in Bangladesh.

Teota is also remembered as the ancestral home of Pramila Devi, the wife of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, and the poet is said to have visited the village. Local people point out the places linked to the couple.

The buildings are old and partly in ruins, but the quiet setting by the river, with the temple rising over the trees, makes it a rewarding stop on the way to or from Aricha.
